How a group looks in Oracle
Ledgers and ledger sets mark the entities. One ledger per country with a different chart in each is common, and so are two subsidiaries sharing a ledger, split by balancing segment.
The analysis your business reports on usually lives in segment values such as plant, business unit and cost centre. That detail is easy to lose on the way to a statutory statement. Here, those segments come through as reporting dimensions, and any balance drills back to the ledger itself.
What IT stops doing every month
Maintaining the OTBI or BI Publisher extracts the close depends on, and managing data access sets for people who only need to read a balance.

Questions
Commonly asked
Does it work with E-Business Suite, or only Fusion?
Both. Fusion Cloud 23A to 24D, and E-Business Suite R12.1 and R12.2. If your acquired entities are on EBS and the parent is on Fusion, both are read.
Do we have to build an OTBI or BI Publisher extract first?
No. Balances come through the GL Balances API, so there's no report to build inside Oracle and nothing to fix after an upgrade.
Two of our subsidiaries share one ledger. Can they be reported separately?
Yes. They're separated by balancing segment, the way Oracle already tells them apart, with no manual split at month end.
How much access does this need?
One integration user with read access to the GL Balances API. No write scope is requested, because none is used.
What happens to our plant and business unit segments?
They come through as reporting dimensions, so the analysis the business already runs on segment values survives into the group reporting.
