Management reporting, in the shape your business runs
Dimensional reporting, cost allocation, an MIS chart of accounts, reporting groups, budget against actual against forecast, and plain-English queries.
Management reporting: the numbers a business runs on, cut the way the business is actually organised.
Distinct from statutory reporting in audience and in shape. Statutory answers to a regulator in a prescribed format on a fixed date; MIS answers to whoever is accountable for a region, a product or a plant, in whatever cut makes that accountability real.
The two draw on the same ledgers and almost never agree line for line, which is normal and has to be explainable.
Also written: management information system, management reporting.
