Cost allocation

Allocate costs on your own drivers, including multi-step allocations.

Shared costs have to land somewhere, and choosing where is a business call. FINK applies the rule you choose the same way every period and shows its working.

  • Your drivers. Allocate on headcount, area, revenue or whatever basis your business has agreed.
  • Multi-step allocations. A cost can be spread once and then spread again.
  • Written down once. The rule runs itself each period. Nobody has to remember how last year’s allocation was done.
  • A basis you can defend. Every allocated figure shows the rule behind it, so a number nobody could explain now has a stated reason.

Allocating shared costs is one of the bigger jobs in a monthly pack. The effort table on the FINK page shows how much of it comes off.

Questions

Commonly asked

Who decides the allocation basis?

You do. Where a shared cost lands is a business decision. FINK holds it as a rule you set and applies it.

Does an allocation change our books?

No. FINK only reads your ledgers. It never posts an entry.
