Customer story

A monthly pack in under 48 hours, from two systems and fifteen entities

DRA Homes runs In4Suite for real estate accounting and Tally for its entity books, across roughly fifteen group entities. The management pack used to be put together by hand from both.

The statutory half is still in progress. The last section says what that means.

The monthly management pack took over two weeks. It is now available in under 48 hours.

Who they are

DRA Homes is a Chennai developer with roughly fifteen legal entities. Like most developers, it holds projects in their own companies and runs two kinds of system: In4Suite for real estate accounting (projects, sales, collections) and Tally for the entity books.

The problem

Both systems do their jobs well. The trouble came after them: the group management pack and the statutory statements were assembled from the two by hand, every period.

What we did

We built one reconciled layer over In4Suite and Tally:

  • One group chart of accounts for the whole group
  • GL mapping per entity onto that chart
  • Reconciled to the books, with every figure traceable to its trial balance and the entries underneath

Management reporting runs through FINK, in DRA’s existing pack format, by entity and by project. Statutory statements under Indian GAAP, with notes, come through FINAHQ.

We started small. On one development, SmartCity, the test was to reproduce DRA’s existing MIS from their own data and run plain-English questions over the real numbers. Management’s feedback then went straight into the group build.

What changed

The pack now refreshes from In4Suite and Tally, by entity and by project, in the format DRA already used. The 48 hours is measured from period end to the pack being in management’s hands, so questions get asked about this month instead of last.

The pack and the statutory accounts don’t agree line for line, mainly on revenue, and both are correct in their own frame. The platform shows where they differ and why.

What’s still in progress

Only the management reporting half is finished. The statutory half (full Indian GAAP statements with notes, per entity, through FINAHQ) is under way. We’ll add it here, with DRA’s name against it, once it lands.

Questions

Commonly asked

Two source systems. Which one is the truth?

Neither on its own. Tally carries the trial balance for each entity, and In4Suite carries the project, sales and collections detail the ledger summarises. The reporting layer reconciles the two onto one group chart of accounts, and every figure stays linked to the trial balance it came from.

Does the management pack agree with the statutory accounts?

Not line for line, and it isn't meant to. Management reporting recognises revenue on a percentage-of-completion basis and the statutory accounts don't. The platform shows and explains those differences instead of forcing them to net to zero.

What does the plain-English query actually do?

It works out what you're asking, then computes the answer arithmetically from the general ledger. The same question returns the same figure every time.

Two source systems — which one is the truth?

Neither on its own. The entity books in Tally carry the trial balance, and In4Suite carries project, sales and collections detail that the ledger summarises. The reporting layer reconciles the two onto one group chart of accounts, and every reported figure stays linked to the trial balance it came from.

Fifteen entities — does the licence change as the group adds more?

No. Users and entities are not metered. What a group of this shape pays is set out on the page about what it costs.
